Discover the Butterfly Garden at Villa Nepomuky: A Tranquil Retreat in Nature
Updated: Sep 7

A New Beginning for Villa Nepomuky
Work has commenced on the enchanting Butterfly Garden at Villa Nepomuky, located on cadastral parcel 219/12 in Nepomuky na Moravě. This garden spans 1,561 m² and is nestled right beside the villa on parcel 51/1. A simplified site plan reveals the garden as a rectangular plot, framed by tree lines on two edges, with a gentle stream flowing along its lower boundary.
This garden is not just a beautiful addition; it is part of the larger landscape surrounding the villa, which is also seeing improvements with the “Pod Okny” water works further along the stream.
What is Being Planted?
The Butterfly Garden will be sown with a specially curated butterfly seed mix, known as Sommerfugleblanding, sourced from Pieterspikzaden in the Netherlands. This blend consists of 20 different species, including annuals, biennials, and perennials. Each plant has been carefully selected for its nectar, pollen, and extended flowering season, ensuring a vibrant and inviting habitat for butterflies.
The Mix of Plants
The mix is built around three essential roles:
Nectar Plants for Adult Butterflies: These include večernice, brutnák, hadinec, třapatka, chrpa, měsíček, sléz, kopretina, zářivka, and trýzel. Each plant offers a feast for the butterflies, attracting them to the garden.
Structure and Long Season: Plants like řebříček, kakost, sadec konopáč, tužebník, zběhovec, and prvosenka provide structure. They ensure that the garden remains lively even after the annuals have faded.
Fill and Soil Cover: Species such as šater, tolice dětelová, and měsíčnice quickly cover the ground, preventing weeds from taking over during the first year.
Some species are present only in trace amounts, like smil písečný at 0.1% and kakost and zběhovec at 0.5%. These are included for their habitat value rather than for their visual impact.

How It Sits on the Land
According to the estate plan, the garden occupies the entirety of parcel 219/12. Villa Nepomuky stands to the west on parcel 51/1. A row of trees provides a natural screen between the garden and the villa, while another row follows the stream. The blue line on the drawing represents the watercourse—the same local stream that feeds the “Pod Okny” reservoirs downstream.
Why It Is Being Built Now
The Butterfly Garden serves as a planted counterpart to the water works. One project retains water in the cadastral area, while the other transforms the bank beside the villa into a vibrant flowering strip for insects. Construction and sowing are currently underway this season. I will share updates on villanepomuky.com as the garden evolves.
Embracing Nature's Beauty
As I walk through the lush landscape of Villa Nepomuky, I feel a deep connection to nature. The Butterfly Garden will not only enhance the beauty of the villa but also create a sanctuary for butterflies and other pollinators. This tranquil retreat is designed for those who seek a modern, nature-immersed holiday experience.
In the heart of the Vysocina Region, this garden will become a haven for luxury travelers and nature lovers alike. I can hardly wait to witness the transformation as the flowers bloom and the butterflies dance in the gentle breeze.
Let us celebrate this new chapter at Villa Nepomuky, where nature and luxury intertwine, creating a unique escape for all who visit.
